Parent Involvement
We strongly encourage parental involvement at the Emerson Lily Free School. The optimal environment happens when our families and our school are working together to form a sort of larger family, or community. We welcome parents to come in to visit their child or to see the school in action at any time. Parents are part of our community.
We ask parents to support the school’s philosophy, especially when visiting. We will provide orientation to the school’s philosophy and process, as well as regular events, fundraisers and gatherings for parents. When at the school, parents may be asked to participate in the school’s conflict resolution process. Volunteer parents may take part in the decision-making process at the school meeting. If you would like to be a volunteer staff member, please contact us.
Parents of children younger than five years old are welcome to bring those children with them and are responsible for them when they attend. We may, in the future, have a pre-school program.
Parents are learners, too. Please feel free to come to the school for your own projects. There will be open space for workshops, discussion groups, events and presentations available to people of any age. If you’d like to organize an event, just put yourself on the schedule for that space.
Homeschooling families may use the school as a homeschooling resource center. We accept part-time enrollment. We have workshops during the day for homeschoolers to attend. In addition, we welcome homeschooling families to use our library or Skillshare Network as a resource. If you are part of a homeschooling family and would like to use the building for a workshop or event, let us know (please review lifelong learning section).
